PRESS: Mobile operator MTS to launch VR broadcasting service

MOSCOW, Jul 12 (PRIME) -- Major Russian mobile operator MTS is launching a service of online broadcasting and watching recordings in the virtual reality (VR) format from concerts and mass gatherings, and promotion of the service could stimulate subscribers to consume more traffic, business daily Kommersant reported on Friday.

Entering the market will enable the company to expand presence in the sphere of entertainment and events after acquisition of ticket operators Ticketland and Ponominalu, an MTS spokesperson said.

At the first stage, the service will be free and then will be provided under subscription or for a one-time payment of up to 250 rubles. The projected margin is seen at 15–20%.

MTS will upload up to 15 recordings of large events and up to five online broadcasts. The operator already has agreements with tens of performers, who could get a part of revenue from sales.

The first broadcast will be held from festival Park Live in Moscow on Friday–Sunday. An expected audience of the project is at 5,000 viewers for three days.
